Tapping optimization potential in the glass industry

Siemens offers plant-wide automation for the glass industry. The concept is designed for long-term success throughout the entire lifecycle of a production plant – including planning and services. At glasstec 2014 last October, visitors from the industry could find out more in person

With its plant-wide automation concept, Siemens integrates all manner of automation solutions from various machine and plant manufacturers in a single, plant-wide total automation system, all along the value chain. The modular complete solution encompasses automation, drives, instrumentation and energy technology, as well as IT, digital planning and industry services.

With this in mind, Siemens devised the motto for glasstec 2014 "Tapping optimization potential – throughout the entire production process", and exhibited highlights for all areas. This included a presentation of plant-wide automation based on the process control system Simatic PCS 7 for all operators. Siemens' stand also featured a simulation model with a golf ball, showing how the Motion Control System Simotion guarantees the quickest program cycles with top precision, in conjunction with the Profinet Performance Upgrade.

As for instrumentation technology, visitors could gain first-hand experience of the advantages of Sitrans LR560 for flat glass and Sitrans FC430 for container glass. When it comes to control cabinet engineering, a wide array of guidelines apply. With the help of Siemens, complete, up-to-date and standard-compliant documentation is not as tricky as it sounds. A further highlight at the trade-fair stand was a demonstration of the Simatic B.Data software. This software gives a transparent overview of energy consumption and costs at a company level. It is designed to make production as economical as possible. A presentation of our comprehensive services throughout the entire lifecycle of a production plant was also part of our booth.
