The Level Forces Subtle Movement While Working

The Level is a beautifully designed tool that brings motion to any common work or meeting area

I'm sure you've heard of the standing desks, or even better yet, the treadmill desk (which I'm still waiting for...), all which are supposed to help get you up (and some moving) because as we all know, sitting all day is bad for, well, everything.

Fluidstance, a California-based startup is questioning, though, is standing still all the time that much better? They think not, so they've developed a balance board called "the Level" aimed at those already who are already standing desk trained, but may be getting a little too comfortable.

The solution is intended to force subtle movement, but not enough to distract you from your work. Your body will make subconscious adjustments to maintain balance and will increase your heart rate. The Level demands a rate of lower leg motion comparable to what you get when walking. It claims an increase in average heart rate of 15 percent compared to a sitting position, and an increase in motion of more than 20 times that of standing at your desk.

The board itself appears much like a classic balance board, but hopes to optimize the device as a tool for the workplace to appeal to a largely sedentary working population (like me.....).

The Level is crafted from military grade aluminum with a laminated wooden finish on top. Judging by the crowdfunding campaign, which wraps up toward the end of this month, it won't take too long to get things moving. Or shall I say you moving. Heh.

The Level has recieved more than $160,000 in pledges after initially setting a goal of $40,000, and if you head to Indiegogo, a pledge of $289 will put you in line for a Level of your own. Shipping is expected to begin in May 2015.
