Case Study: Automated Surface Inspection of High Security Keys
Client produces high security keys and wants to be sure that keys satisfy several conditions. In this respect client wants each surface of keys to be inspected including abutment area. Parameters which client wants to measure are key bit width, profile (cut) shape (width and depth), position, shape and depth of dimples and grooves.
Keys are made of a material having high reflectivity. Not only the material but holes and curved areas on key, in short detailed surface structure also make process even harder. Tactile inspection and quality verification is difficult on such tiny details because majority of the measurements are under the range of 1 mm. Additionally these are high security keys with more details requiring more sophisticated measurements.
A QuellTech Q4-20 Laser Line Scanner is well capable of measuring high security keys’ detailed surface structures with high precision. Depending on client’s quality requirements it is possible to determine fail or pass status of the keys.
