Autonomous Underwater Vehicle enters the race to find missing plane
The Bluefin-21, designed by Bluefin Robotics, has now joined the search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.
The innovative AUV uses sonar pulses to sweep the ocean floor at depths of up to 4,500 m. The resulting signals are converted into high resolution images, which can be analyzed on board the mother ship.
The Bluefin-21 is more commonly used in offshore oil and gas exploration. It holds major advantages over towed systems (such as TPL-25) – notably, the ability to maintain a constant altitude and excellent manoeuvrability.
Let’s hope its addition to the search aids in the speedy recovery of the plane!
